Site Review: Arbor Day

Site URL: ArborDay.org

Content:  This is the online home of the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees.

Design:  The site’s overall look initially comes across as too busy. That feeling fades, however, as ArborDay.org’s structure becomes more evident. Content areas serve specific purposes, and the site provides clear paths to educational resources, volunteer opportunities and more.

Arbor DayReview: The Arbor Day Foundation’s mission is increasing the tree population, but the site also offers terrific resources for connecting students to nature so that they’ll be interested in preserving it.

The site’s outstanding content includes the Rainforest Rescue and Backyard Woods areas, but the Nature Explore section in particular stands out for its classroom suitability. Here, teachers will find Sourcebook Items, which are field-tested natural components to support outdoor learning. In addition, workshops share effective, inspiring ideas for enhancing children’s learning with nature.

Bottom Line:  ArborDay.org is an excellent tool for getting students interested in trees, nature and conservation.
