Content: The Art of Monarchy is a collaboration between BBC Radio 4 and the Royal Collection to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The series examines some of the objects that have helped define a thousand years of the British monarchy.
Design: The homepage serves as the primary navigation tool to all of the lessons and resources tied to the Jubilee. It features a vertical layout with sub-heads and images placed throughout. It is based on the template used for the BBC’s Famous People educational site, so all of the original imagery resembles that site.
Review: The Diamond Jubilee is an historical event and will certainly receive international coverage. This makes it a terrific jumping off point for a class discussion on the role of monarchs in contemporary government, as well as lessons on their roles in shaping history.
The BBC has collected ready-made lesson plans and other classroom materials on the British monarchy, making teaching the topic significantly easier. The content here is first-rate, if somewhat limited by the fact that most materials are geared toward primary-grade students.
Bottom Line: A great resource for classroom materials, the BBC does the work of compiling Jubilee-related content in one convenient place.
