Waving Goodbye to 2009

"It is fun to be in the same decade with you."
~ (Franklin D. Roosevelt to Winston Churchill, 1941).
On New Year's Eve, I asked my children (they're 20, 22 and 28 years old) what was a defining moment for them over the past decade. It was interesting to hear what they considered to be the "biggies" of the decade. One said "finishing post-secondary school...finally!"; one said "finally finding my way out of the dark"; and one said "the release of Radio Head's newest album." My list of defining moments was mixed with personal and professional landmarks. My professional biggies included:
* Discovering the power of the Web to alter what I believe about teaching and learning -- major shapeshifting!
* Going back to school at 50 years of age (Masters of Educational Technology) and learning about the pedogogical underpinnings of teaching and learning -- fascinating, intoxicating learning!
* Connecting with virtual colleagues around the world for common learning -- highly rewarding and life changing for me!
As I wave goodbye to the first decade of of the 21st century, I am hopeful that this learning journey not only continues, but that, as a budding senior citizen, I'll be brave enough to join in.
