Share

App Name: Solar System

Cost:  $13.99

What does it promise?  Per the Apple Web site, Solar System promises a “breakthrough electronic book about the Solar System, offering hours of interactive exploration and presenting a treasure trove of visual information.”

Does it deliver?  Yes, and then some. Best-selling author Marcus Chown leads users on a grand tour through the diversity of planets, moons, asteroids, comets and spacecraft that surround our sun. Illuminating his insightful text are a wealth of beautiful 3D objects, movies, images, animations and diagrams, all fully interactive, richly detailed and based on real scientific data. Users can put our solar system in motion, controlling the orbits of the moons and planets and observing them from any viewpoint with incredible surface detail. View the latest imagery returned by both astronauts and robot spacecraft, beautifully presented on the iPad screen.

Can I use it in my classroom?  This app is perfect for any science lesson. Gone are the days of the paper-mache model; Solar System brings these lessons into the 21st Century.

All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
