Share

App Name: Sword & Sworcery

Cost:  $4.99

What does it promise?  This is, first and foremost, a game. Better yet, this is a game that incorporates music and critical thinking into its complex puzzles.

Sword and SworceryDoes it deliver? Superbrothers’ Sword & Sworcery is an exploratory action adventure game with an emphasis on audiovisual style. Players help a wandering warrior monk complete her woeful errand by traversing a mythic little realm, using a sword to do battle and evoking sorcery to solve mystical musical mysteries. The videogame world is even affected by moon phases.

Can I use it in my classroom?    While we generally don’t recommend straightforward games for classroom use, Sword & Sworcery’s use of puzzles, along with the player’s need to use music to solve some of them, provide enough academic value to warrant inclusion. Students can learn critical thinking skills and creative problem solving skills as they advance through the game
