As summer vacation draws to a close (in the Northern Hemisphere, anyway), many educators' thoughts and attentions are turning to new faces and new curricula.
This week's special edition of Education World focuses on the opening days of the new school year. Stories this week emphasize new tools and activities that will help all educators begin a new school year on the right foot. For administrators, a special story provides tips from your peers -- tips for motivating your staffs to face the giant tasks ahead.
This week on Education World you'll find these stories:
Last September, in response to an Education World story, teachers around the world sent in their favorite first-day-of-school activities. So here they are! Fourteen great activities to help you get to know your new students -- and to help them get to know you!
Yes, we have more! A second batch of back-to-school ideas from Ed World readers!
A new resource, bulging with practical ideas for classroom use, would make a great welcome gift for your school's new teachers! Plenty here for experienced teachers too! Included: Ideas for building "teamwork" skills, motivating students, and creating reading response journals!
Where can you find cows, candy apples, country singers, and Cajun cooking -- all in one place? Visit some of the best state fair Web sites, and sample fun and educational activities.
Get Off to a Good Start with this slim volume that's big on practical tips for ensuring a successful year.
Want to get the year off to a good start? Looking for the words to motivate your staff? Here are the messages a few of your colleagues plan to pass along to "the troops" at the start of the new school year!
It's a different world out there when some teacher candidates are offered hiring bonuses, relocation cost reimbursements, loan forgiveness or reduction! Or when one state is raiding teachers from another state! Others wonder, Does the United States really have a teacher shortage?
This week's stories are bent on helping educators everywhere get the school year off to a good start. But that isn't where our job ends. We hope you will check back often with Education World during the school year. It's our goal that you find something new, interesting, and practical every time you log onto Ed World, "where educators go to learn."
