School should be year-round for students because of the amount of learning loss that occurs during summer vacation.
So said the WAUSAUDailyHerald.com editorial board, after pointing out that 40 percent of students in Wausau, WI, are already attending summer school. “A three-month summer vacation is bad for students, and it's especially bad for at-risk students,” they added.
"The problem with a long summer break is that, when students are out on vacation for months on end, they tend to forget a lot of what they've learned. Research shows that they are especially likely to forget things that require memorization, such as multiplication tables or grammatical rules."
