American students were ranked lower in subjects such as science and reading literacy and even lower in mathematics, while students in other parts of the globe ranked much higher.
The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) reported a "state of educational stagnation," according to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, said Education News.
An Education Next survey revealed that only 15 percent of respondents gave the nation's schools a grade of "A" or "B" in terms of educating students. Over half of respondents did, however, give their community schools a grade of "A" or "B," said the article.
