Get Great Strategies for Supporting Instructional Coaches

In a post for SmartBlog on Education, Amy Illingworth shared tips for supporting instructional coaches. 

Illingworth currently serves as a district leader who facilitates the professional development of her school system's instructional coaches. Her group's work this year centered on a professional book study of Elena Aguilar’s The Art of Coaching, in addition to discussions about Common Core implementation, instructional strategies, digital literacy and authentic opportunities to apply learning.

The tips she shared include:

  • Build in time for reflection;
  • Give everyone a voice and a choice;
  • Model lifelong learning;
  • Remember that learning takes time; and
  • Celebrate success.
