As Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., held a recent gay pride celebration, Principal Pete Cahall made a surprise announcement for which he had been waiting 50 years.

“I am a proud gay man that just happens to be the principal of Wilson High School,” he said as the students and staff around him erupted in cheers.
