On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Google Atlanta announced it would fund classroom requests of every Greater Atlanta Teacher on DonorsChoose.org, reported the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Google's $340,000 donation led to 356 Atlanta teachers receiving materials for their 38,775 students. The materials range from magnetic tiles to a brand new playground, the article said.
Tom Lowry, head of Google's Atlanta office, said the organization was proud to do its part. The gift came as a surprise to the teachers.
"With two kids in the Atlanta Public School system, I'm inspired daily by the hard work of our local teachers," he said. "Today, we're excited to team up with DonorsChoose.org to say a big thanks to teachers and to support all their classroom projects in the Atlanta area."
Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org, said the organization was "humbled and grateful to Google for their devotion."
"This is a great day for Atlanta teachers and students," he said.
