Gabriela Maldonado of Gautemala-based Jugando Aprendo (which means Learning by Doing) was a Kindergarten teacher and saw the need for books, manipulatives and other educational materials that would engage students of varying learning styles. She created her materials and methodology to fulfill this need. Maldonado's business started in 2010--now, 13,000 students are using her methodology and Jugando Aprendo employs a team of 35 people.
Maldonado speaks about her experience and provides advice to teachers who want to engage parents and students as well as educators who wish to create their own useful products.
She was one of 6 recipients of the 2014 Cartier Women’s Initiative Award, an annual international business plan competition for women entrepreneurs from all over the world.
Parents are very engaged with Jugando Aprendo materials and the teachers who use the products are very loyal.
