Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) has sent out a national press release to highlight its efforts to recruit talented educators, particularly those that are qualified to teach Secondary Mathematics and Science, Special Education, Early Childhood, World Languages and Bilingual instruction.
DPSCD is trying to draw attention to its Teacher Career Fair which is scheduled to happen on December 8, 2016.
"The Teacher Career Fair is being held in preparation for the second semester and aims to fill current and projected vacant positions for the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year and upcoming 2017-2018 school year. There are a number of opportunities for immediate placement. Interviews will be held on-site and conditional offers provided to qualified candidates," said DPSCD in a prepared statement.
The career fair is being held after a particularly rough school year for Detroit Public Schools. The district has been in the national conversation for some time due to rampant teacher dissatisfaction and consequent protests, crumbling school buildings and annually low student test scores.
Due to the rough climate and likely also due to the bad press, DPSCD is doing whatever it can to overcome an annual teacher shortage in nationally hard-to-fill areas like STEM, early education and in language classes.
The full list of desperately needed positions is as follows:
DPSCD administration stresses that while these are the positions needed the most, the district is hiring for all positions.
