Many media outlets have reported that there have been 74 school shootings in the 18 months, since the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. The statistic was provided by the group Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun-control advocacy group.
CNN closely examined the data, concluding that during the time period in question, there have been 15 incidents involving a minor or adult actively shooting inside or near a school. "That works out to about one shooting every five weeks," said CNN.
Other incidents involved situations such as personal arguments, accidents and alleged gang activities and drug deals.
