Business Company Ranks Best and Worst State for Teachers

Wallethub ranked the best and worst states for teachers recently and some state residents may be surprised by the rankings. The site ranked each state using data such as "average starting teacher salaries and the number of teachers per capita," said an article on The Huffington Post. "The site also looked at the average work hours for teachers and the relative safety of different schools."

According to the ranking, Wyoming is the best state overall for teachers, while North Carolina is the worst. The Huffington Post offers readers an interactive map where they can hover the cursor over a state and see its ranking.

"In light of World Teachers Day on Oct. 5, WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and the District of Columbia to ease the process of finding the best teaching opportunities in the country," Wallethub's website said. "We did so by examining 18 key metrics, ranging from median starting salary to teacher job openings per capita. The results of our study, as well as additional insight from experts and a detailed methodology, can be found below."

Under its main findings, the list ranges with Wyoming at the top, and Connecticut ranking at 25 in the country. The state's overall ranks were determined by "Opportunity and Competition Rank" and "Academic and Work Environment Rank".

The report also looked and ranked state's based on highest annual salaries, most teachers per capita, highest pupil to teacher ratio, and best school systems ranking.
