A Very Special
Thank You to Parents

Share

In my May newsletter to parents, I always included a yearly list of "thank yous" to them. Some of those thank-you messages include

  • a thank you to all the parents who volunteered and gave us help when needed;
  • a thank you to all the parents who regularly looked through students' backpacks for notes and messages sent home;
  • a thank you to all the parents who called in when their child was ill and would be absent from school; and
  • a thank you to all the parents who made sure their children spent time reading at home.

    You might brainstorm with your staff a list of Thank You's to include in one of your last newsletters of the school year.

    The parents in my schools always told me they appreciated being thanked for doing the things on our list. Some also said they were surprised that not all the parents saw the acts I mentioned as part of what being a parent is all about.
