To ANIMALS!

We love animals. (You can tell we've got an animal theme on Education World At Home these days!) There are many great sites about animals, and here are just a few to get you started.

Enjoy!

Don't try to feed the animals. (You'll just get your computer screen all messy!)

Kidspace @ the Internet Public Library: Animals

Here's a page where you can get links to information about different kinds of animals. (Explore the rest of Kidspace, too!)

This is a delightful site, with live cameras where you can watch animals in zoos around the world.

At the site of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, they've got an amazing Photo Gallery of animals of many kinds.

The Zoos Worldwide site has an "animal of the month," this month being the giraffe. This site also has zoo-cams. Fun!

Of course, most animals are not in zoos or aquariums. The Wildlife Conservation Society has a terrific Web site devoted to, well, wildlife!

Animal Planet may be one of your favorite TV channels – it's part of Discovery Communications, and it's got tons of great stuff on it in addition to TV listings!

Here's an interesting thing: Animals make more or less the same sounds worldwide, but our different human languages "express" or name those sounds differently. So here's a page from Georgetown University that shows how different human languages have words for animal sounds!

A lot of people get upset at the way animals are sometimes treated by people, and many people who feel this way belong to the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA. Here's their site:

Finally, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has a wonderful area on their site called Science & Nature: Animals.

Enjoy!
