Tech in the Classroom: Answerables

What is it?  Answerables is a 3D virtual-world game where students create their own communities and responsible citizens. Kids can play a multiplayer game set in Proxima, a distant planet inhabited by Ansibles. Representing the student's escape into the digital age, Answerables also provides a safe social network where students can communicate and share their 3D world with friends.

How does it work?  Players choose an avatar and customize their game POD, building their own identity and community. Players can communicate, create and work together on projects, assignments, presentations and lessons. Students can also accomplish educational challenges through quests and missions.

How hard is it to use?  Answerables is very easy to use as long as users have a PC with Windows XP or higher and a 200 GHz processor. A Mac needs to be running OSX or higher. The site offers plenty of video tutorials and support, making it an effective tool for learning.

How well does it work?  The game allows kids to learn about societal issues, engage with peers, enhance their digital skills and more. Students complete assignments, get homework help and securely surf the Web.

How do I use it in the classroom?  Answerables could be used as an after-school program or during classroom time in Language Arts courses. Have students create accounts and write about their adventures. The possibilities are endless with this innovative and entertaining game.
