App Review: Doceri Interactive Whiteboard

App Name: Doceri Interactive Whiteboard

Cost: Free

What does it promise?: Doceri Interactive Whiteboard offers simple and interactive way to display lessons or presentations at the touch of a button. It also promises the ability to be controlled through a Mac or PC, while suggesting that it is great for student projects as well.

Does it deliver?: Yes. What makes Doceri interesting is the fact that students or professors can upload a photo and then use the drawing tools to explain or point out key components geared to the lesson.

One example would be a student who is asked to draw his or her own diagram of a plant cell using what they learned in class. When the student completes the drawing on Doceri, they can easily display the end result on the screen through the teachers Mac or PC.

One recommendation would be to be sure to use a stylus as it will be a lot more effective than using your fingers. The hand written or hand drawn projects will be much easier to understand and save a teacher time especially if a lesson needs to be reviewed.

It is just a fun way of learning that will get students more involved and gives teachers a way to make learning fun and appealing.

Can I use it in the classroom?: This app is geared toward classroom use. It serves as a Power Point-like option but can be used portably and easily. Even more interesting is that fact that it has a recording feature that can help teachers concentrate less on writing in the classroom and more on explaining.

With the recording feature, a teacher can write out an entire lesson and have it recorded so ever aspect the way they want to and have it playing on the screen while they explain what the lesson is.
