Description: The University of Wisconsin-River Falls invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English, with specialty in composition and rhetoric, beginning August, 2001, to teach introductory and advanced college writing courses, composition theory, and other courses in the candidate's field of expertise. The candidate should also be qualified serve as Freshman English Coordinator at some future point, a responsibility that carries a three-credit release per term. This is a full-time, tenure track position. Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and experience. The normal teaching load is twelve credits. Faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls are expected to demonstrate effective teaching and advising, conduct scholarly research, use appropriate instructional technology, and serve the English Department and university community. Qualifications Qualifications (Required): Ph.D. in English with specialty in rhetoric, composition, or composition theory, completed by the date of application. Experience in area of expertise: Several years' experience teaching college-level composition courses. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and ability to contribute to the University's commitment to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages. Description: Pedagogue. Tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2001, at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in pedagogy methods, curriculum, individual and team sports theory, and physical education fieldwork; supervise student teachers in the public schools; participate in curriculum development and in student advisement, supervise master's theses, committee work, grant writing, and research activities; pursue scholarly and professional activities and represent the discipline through department, college, university, and community service. The finalists will be required to appear for interviews and to deliver a classroom presentation and a scholarly/research presentation. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in kinesiology, physical education or related field with a strong background in physical education pedagogy (ABD considered). Strong background demonstrating skill and teaching experience in a variety of team and individual sports required, knowledge of public school curricula required, evidence of scholarly and/or professional activity required and evidence of ability to work with students from diverse ethnic backgrounds required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Field experience in supervision of student teaching in physical education preferred. Public school teaching experience desired, team sports background desired. Evidence of research and grant writing desired. First aid or social dance background desired. Demonstrated ability to be responsive to the educational equity goals of the university and its increasingly ethnic diversity and international character.
