NBC Splits From Microsoft

The partnership between Microsoft and NBC is over. The news agency bought out the tech giant’s stake in MSNBC.com, putting to bed an online relationship that spanned 16 years.

The original arrangement paired NBC News' exclusive news and video content with Microsoft's technological expertise in a 50-50 joint venture between Microsoft and NBCUniversal. Because the two companies have over a decade-and-a-half of digital history together, insiders speculate it will take roughly two years for all the ties to be severed. In the meantime, the newly re-branded NBCNews.com will continue to provide news for MSN.com, Microsoft's Web portal, which will contribute traffic back to the network.

Moving forward, NBCNews.com will feature some slight design changes to bring all of its sister sites in line stylistically. The digital homes for Today, MSNBC, NBC Sports and others will all feature the same design template, creating a unity among the brands.

While there is only personal preference to the matter~ teachers may want to stop and...

Radio Shout Outs!

Today~ I tricked my students. Yes~ I had to fool them into thinking they were doing an assignment on radio/ T.V. commericals. What's Your Angle?

When teaching a lesson~ I think you have to approach it like a shotgun. Shotguns do not just shoot one bullet~ but spray lots of little bullets at the target.

In the same way~ when teaching~ try to hit the lesson from many different angles. Have them use their hands~ their voices~ their eyes...use food~ music~ technology~ movement...keep trying to hit the lesson from another angle. By doing this~ the lesson becomes exciting and you tap into the different learning styles.

How Do You Create Authentic Assessment?

Authentic assessment is basically any type of assessment that is not paper-and-pencil type of testing. It can include projects~ portfolios~ or running records. I first really used authentic assessment when I student taught in a preschool program for my undergraduate degree. It was used mostly because traditional assessment becomes much more difficult for that age bracket. But now~ as I work mostly in elementary and middle school levels~ I realize that many...
