These days blog sites are among some of the most popular webpages. They contain all sorts of information from educational to recreational material. For some it has even become somewhat of a hobby.
Incorporating digital media in the classroom doesn’t always have to be coding programs or PowerPoint presentations. For a change, educators can look towards online blogging where students can create a blog, interact with the users and reading community.
Why incorporate blogging? Well, for one it opens students up to a whole new world of writing. Blogging can be as simple as creative writing posts to news posts on an event that took place. However you choose to approach it is your choice but just to help you, Teachers Network created a nearly 16 minute long video on how to incorporate blogging in the classroom.
Some of the benefits are positive student interaction instead of off-topic discussions, critiquing, communicate with other students outside of the classroom and differentiating their writing for the normal essay writing structures.
Blogging flows a bit more fluently for students because they are writing with their opinions. What they input into their blog may spark important conversations where they can learn from their readers or in many cases other students.
One of the topics that students wrote about on their blogs in the video happens to be immigration. They expressed why they believe or disbelieve in the process by using persuasive opinionated language with real thoughts.
The video is complete with a creative lesson plan that will jumpstart your blended classroom into gear. STEM learning doesn’t always have to have science or math behind it. Finding a way for students to connect writing skills and incorporating them in a digital database is a great way to spark interest in related fields such as journalism.
