Rethinking Schools Online
https://www.rethinkingschools.org/
GRADE LEVEL: Professional

CONTENT:
Rethinking Schools is an activist education publication, with articles written by and for teachers, parents, and students. It addresses classroom practices, educational theory, and key policy issues such as vouchers and marketplace-oriented reforms, funding equity, and school-to-work programs.

AESTHETICS:
The site has a number of thought-provoking black and white images to accompany the articles. The text is easy to read in a newsletter format.

ORGANIZATION:
The site includes a navigational side bar on all the pages, and a comprehensive index to past articles both on the Internet and in hard copy. The traditional newsletter text columns are not well suited to the Internet, but navigational buttons help make it easier to read.

REVIEW:
This is a very thought-provoking site for educators. Each quarterly issue of the newsletter discusses an educational issue in depth. The publication has been around since 1988, but is only available online back to the fall of 1996. Back issues that aren't available online can be ordered on the site. Other special publications are also available. Many of the subjects discussed are of great importance to the future of education and the site is therefore an especially important resource for administrators. Also included are a set of links to outside resources on school reform and social action.
