REVIEW:
Gallaudet University was founded in Washington, DC, in 1856, opening its doors to 12 students its first year. From those humble beginnings, a large a comprehensive university has grown up that includes both undergraduate and post graduate degree programs with an emphasis on education, human services, communication, and business management. Gallaudet also offers satellite programs around the United States for students who are not able to relocate to DC. I was impressed by the Congressionally mandated Pre-College National Mission Programs for which Gallaudet is creating high-quality courses of study for students with hearing impairments, pre-K through 12th grade. Of particular note are the Virtual High School courses that will be offered in the 1999-2000 school year. The course list is very impressive. This is an important site for students with hearing-impairments and their teachers.
