GRADE LEVEL: 9-12, Professional

TeacherServe, created by the National Humanities Center, provides instructional guides for humanities topics for students in grades 9 to 12.
Bright colors and appropriate graphics add to the appeal of this site.
The site has two main sections: Divining America and Nature Transformed. Both sections of the site are accessible from the left-side menu, and each is divided into subsections.
TeacherServe provides instructional guides for Divining America and Nature Transformed. Each instructional guide includes essays written for classroom use. Divining America discusses the role that religion played in shaping American culture. This topic is divided into three time periods: The 17th and 18th Centuries, The 19th Century, and The 20th Century. Essay topics include Native American religions, religious pluralism, religion during the Civil War, and religion after World War II. Nature Transformed explores "how the forces that shaped the American landscape also shaped the American past." This section also has three thematic subdivisions. Each essay within the instructional guides provides a guide to student discussion, a debate, and a list of related links.
