/presidency/home.html

GRADE LEVEL: K-12

CONTENT:
The American Presidency, from the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies, introduces all the former U.S. presidents and discusses their presidencies in the context of the historical era in which each served.
AESTHETICS:
The American Presidency site has an elegant interface, befitting a presidential showcase.
ORGANIZATION:
The site organizes the presidents along an interactive timeline of historical eras; visitors enter by clicking an era or a thumbnail portrait of a president.
REVIEW:
This site is not an in-depth study of the presidents, but rather an overview that covers such topics as Foundations, The Campaign Trail, Life and Death in the White House, and Communicating the Presidency. The galleries feature famous portraits of all former U.S. presidents with a short introduction to each. A link to the related era puts each president and presidency into historical context. The site includes hands-on activities for students and a wealth of materials for teachers. Lesson plans are available for grades 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Additional resources include: a list of presidents, a timeline of presidential candidates, Web links, and a bibliography.
