The Dramas of Haymarket

The Chicago Historical Society and Northwestern University teamed up to produce this site to examine selected materials from the society's collection and put them in historical context.

From the sepia photograph on the front page to the multimedia offered inside, this site is well designed and appealing.

This site is organized into seven chronological sections, each accessible from the main contents page. Video clips, audio clips, and some interactive elements require the QuickTime plug-in.

The Dramas of Haymarket offers an interpretive presentation of a variety of primary sources and puts them into historical context. Presented in the form of a drama with prologue, five acts, and an epilogue, the Dramas of Haymarket is a complete chronological account of the events of the period. History teachers and students alike will find this site a wonderful supplement to the study of the United States during this period. Included are virtual tours of the Haymarket area and Forest Home Cemetery, audio and video clips, original news articles, and photographs.
