The Learning Planet
http://www.learningplanet.com/
GRADE LEVEL: Pre-K-6, Parent

CONTENT:
The Learning Planet, sponsored by Lightspan, offers fun, interactive, and educational games for kids and suggestions for parents and teachers.

AESTHETICS:
A simple layout, cartoon graphics, and lots of white space make this site appealing to young children. Users will need Shockwave to play most of the games.

ORGANIZATION:
Even young children will be able to navigate this site. The activities are divided into grade appropriate levels: preschool-K, grades 1-3, and grades 4-6+. Each section has its own menu; access to the other grade levels is possible by clicking on the left-side navigation map.

REVIEW:
This site has enough interactive learning games to keep kids entertained for hours. Even preschool children will find activities suitable for them. Children in pre-K and K will learn beginning number skills in Number Train, Count Your Chickens, and 123 Order. Little ones will also want to repeatedly click on the letters in Alphabet Action to hear the name of the letter and see the animations. First through third graders will enjoy the Crossword and Word Search Puzzles as well as Mrs. E's Memory Game and Spacey Math. Lunar Adventure, Fraction Frenzy, and a Geography Quiz will have fourth through sixth graders coming back for more. Parents and teachers will appreciate the useful suggestions for helping children learn these important skills with links to other Web sites, pages to print, and activities to do offline.

Note: The Learning Planet is now a subscription site.
