A Compact for Reading & School-Home Links

A Compact for Reading is "a written agreement among families, teachers, principals, and students to work together to help improve the reading skills of kindergarten through third grade children."

This is a visually pleasing site to visit with low-key, tasteful graphics.

The main page leads you directly to your area of interest with a clear hierarchy of materials available.

The School-Home Links Reading Kits are designed to help parents and schools improve reading and literacy skills. They are designed to be used with the Compact for Reading Handbook, which is available on the site. The program is intended for grade levels K through 3 and includes activities that are developmentally appropriate for each level. Each kit contains 100 activities that can be downloaded individually from the site, or the entire collection can be downloaded as pdf files using Adobe Acrobat. These kits and the companion Web site are a joint publication of the U.S. Department of Education, the Corporation for National Service, the Los Angeles Times, and Little Planet Learning.
