Site Review: CoreStandards.org

Share

Site URL:  www.corestandards.org

Content:  Common Core State Standards Initiative is a Web site devoted to the Common Core State Standards that are being adopted in states around the country. It includes adoption information, the standards themselves, the latest news and more.

Design:  The site’s design includes an easy-to-use top navigation bar and an eye-catching scroller that showcases highlights such as the adoption map. The page is on the text-heavy side, however, with graphical text links to some of the same components also featured in the navigation bar and scroller.

Review:  This site is intended for educators and others interested in and/or adhering to the Common Core State Standards for math and English language arts. It provides a comprehensive view—everything from debunking myths to exploring why supporters favor the Common Core. Visitors can learn a lot by looking through the many tabs, documents and resources. Information ranges from background information (“What are educational standards?”) to nitty-gritty details of how the standards were created.

Bottom Line:  CoreStandards.org is an extremely useful site for anyone who wants (or needs) to know more about the Common Core State Standards. Though the design could be less cluttered, that is a minimal detractor when compared to the breadth of information and help available on the site.
