Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12

This site is a collection of biographies of accomplished African Americans that shares their stories of success against the odds, of achievement in the face of adversity, and in all cases, they are stories of inspiration.
The main page of the site has an elegant interface with the fifteen categories of History Makers listed. There is also a bottom navigation menu to other areas of the site.

History Makers is a good resource for anyone wanting to learn more about African American contributions to United States culture, society and history. It features over 1100 biographies of accomplished African Americans with messages of leadership, achievement and perseverance. History Makers are grouped thematically from ArtMakers to LawMakers to StyleMakers for ease of use. Each person is featured with a photograph, a biography and an archive of photographs from throughout his/her life. Users may nominate their own History Maker by completing the online form. The initial goal of The HistoryMakers is to complete 5,000 interviews of both well-known and unsung African American HistoryMakers within the next five years. There is an online store for purchasing the video interviews.
