CONTENT:
HEARTH is an electronic collection of books and journals in Home Economic and related disciplines. It features titles that were published from 1820-1979 and includes the full text of these selections as well as bibliographies and essays on the wide array of subjects related to Home Economics.
SITE DESIGN:
The site contains a vast amount of materials (almost 400,000 pages) that is organized in a user friendly format. Links to the main sections of the site are located in the left sidebar. The site is fully searchable and titles can be browsed by subject, alphabetic index, or publication date.
 

REVIEW:
This comprehensive collection of home economics and related discipline materials is housed at the Mann Library, Cornell University. Users who arent familiar with all the disciplines related to home economics may want to start their exploration with the Subjects area. Each subject (Child Care, Human Development and Family Studies, Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, etc.) features an introductory essay, images, and a bibliography of core titles, as well as subtopics for each subject. The database of books and journals can be searched or browsed by subject, alphabetically by author, or publication date. The full text of the volumes is available as an image or it can be viewed as plain text in order for users to save it, cut and paste, and to use the browsers find function to locate a word on the page. The text can also be printed using the PDF option.
