The Poetry Archive
More than a mere archive -- a poetry playground.
Grade Level: Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12

This site has as its goal to help "make poetry accessible, relevant and enjoyable to a wide audience." It contains hundreds of recordings of poets reading their own work, as well as resources for teachers and students.
The archive is well-organized and easy to navigate. The archive can be searched or browsed in a number of ways: alphabetically by theme, form, poet's name, or title. There is a top navigation bar for accessing the other areas of the site. There is also a guided tour available for first time visitors to get an overview of the extensive holdings.

Bring poetry to life in your classroom with the Poetry Archive. It includes readings from contemporary poets and poets from the past, such as Robert Browning, Langston Hughes, and Rudyard Kipling. There is a section just for children that features child-friendly readings from many poets. In addition to the recordings, visitors will find a wealth of background information about the poets, as well as filmed interviews with some of them. Resources for teachers include ready-to-use lesson plans and classroom activities that are built around recordings in the Archive, tips for creating a good listening atmosphere in the classroom, and ten-minute classroom activities to help students get inside the poem they've just heard. Included is also a list of other poetry resources on the Internet.
