App Name: Visual Anatomy Lite iPad/iPhone
Cost: Free
What does it promise? The Visual Anatomy Lite app promises a 3D interactive view of the human body for ages 12 and up. It promises a learning tool for students studying anatomy and biology. They also promise that this tool can be used later on when a student enters a professional field later on in life.
Does it deliver? The app really delivers especially for students who plan on pursuing medical fields when they grow up. Kids who are curious about the subject matter will learn a ton. The app breaks down the human anatomy by the organs, muscles, bones, skull, circulation and respiratory system. The app goes over each individual part of the human anatomy. The muscles, for example, come with an explanation of the origin; insertion, nerve and the actions they help carry out. For the organs, there are extremely detailed breakdowns so that students understand in detail what they are responsible for. The information in the app is what’s most impressive. It’s so extensive that students 12 and up would easily be able to use it as a reminder before an exam. The app is very easy to use and parents and teachers can explain how it works simply by clicking on the instructions.
Can I use it in the classroom? This app can be used in the classroom. It’s a good practice tool for students who need to memorize the ins and outs of the human body. Often times the parts and functions of the human body need to be memorized for exams and quizzes. Teachers can assign the app as a way to practice. There is a built in quiz section that asks challenging questions to prepare students for in class exams. The only downfall for instructors is that it does not give the ability to create your own quiz so the in-app quiz might not be geared towards the subject matter being discussed in class.
