Tech in the Classroom:

iVideo Converter and Downloader

What is itiVideo Converter is a fast, award-winning, free program that allows users to download and convert online videos.

iVideoHow does it work? The software takes the URL of a YouTube, Vimeo or other Web-based video and extracts it to your desktop. It also converts existing video files to a myriad of file formats.

In addition, users can get the software without having to go through a dodgy download site. IVideo Converter is available for download at CNet.com, a reputable CBS Interactive site.

How hard is it to use? Not very. There is a brief learning curve, and there is no drag-and-drop functionality. But once visitors have practiced a few times, using the program becomes easy. A user simply pastes the URL of a Web-based video into the proper iVideo window and in a manner of seconds, the entire file is located on his/her desktop for later viewing.

How well does it work? iVideo Converter does what it says it does, so in that respect, it works wonderfully.

How do I use it in the classroom? No longer will teachers need an Internet connection to show Web-based videos to their classes. Videos can be downloaded at home or before class, then shown later without the lag or buffering that streaming sometimes causes.
