Jigsaw Technique

The goal of the jigsaw technique is for groups of students to become experts on an aspect of a larger topic, and then teach their classmates what they learned. The pieces of information different groups collect create a complete picture of the larger topic under study. Students have to listen carefully to their classmates presentation so they are prepared for any tests afterward.

Advocates say the jigsaw technique is an efficient way to learn material. The process also encourages listening, engagement, and empathy by giving each member of the group an essential part to play in the academic activity.
