Would would it take for you to consider moving permanently to Mars? Believe it or not, thousands have applied to do just that.
CNN reported that more than 100,000 people vied for the chance to join a no-return, four-person mission to Mars in 2022. Almost a third of the applicants are Americans.
The Mars One Project, led by Dutch CEO Bas Lansdorp, plans to film the entire mission, including the eight-year training the astronauts must complete before their journey to the Red Planet. Lansdorp hopes that media agencies and sponsors will be willing to pay to view the historic attempt.
Astronaut preparation will include training in field medicine, farming in specialized plant production units, electrical repairs, mental resolve and more. Two years after the initial trip to Mars, Lansdorp wants to send a second contingent of astronauts.
