Content:  Wings for Kids is a social-emotional education program that teaches young people how to behave well, make good decisions and build healthy relationships. The program does this by weaving a comprehensive social and emotional learning curriculum into a fun after-school program. Kids get the life lessons they need to succeed and be happy, while also getting a safe place to go after school.

wings for kidsDesign: “Easy” is the word that best describes Wings’ site design. Everything about it, including navigation and search, is very easy. All of the links are intuitively placed and send users to the desired area without making them jump through hoops.

Users encounter a just-right number of clickable resources on the homepage, resulting in an informative experience that doesn’t bombard the senses. Engaging visitors in one click, Wings also provides paths to key areas such as news, video and podcasts.

Review: By focusing on the emotional and social aspects of learning, Wings offers a tremendous boost to the standard elementary curriculum. The fact that it is an after-school program makes it an even better fit for schools.

The Wings Web site provides an easy-to-follow method for implementing the program locally. Every aspect of Wings is covered, from its creed to its 30 learning objectives. Of particular note is the Day in the Life page, which details exactly what it is like to spend a day in the Wings Program.

Bottom Line: Offering a high-quality emotional and social supplement to the regular school day, Wings for Kids is a winner.
