Site URL: SocialStudies.org
Content: This site is home to the National Council for the Social Studies, a group whose membership includes social studies teachers and experts. Here users will find a plethora of news and goings-on in the world of social studies educators.
Design: It’s not great, but it’s not bad, either. There is a lot going on, and the homepage can feel cluttered. The
site does, however, feature a primary scroller and a news box providing links to the newest content. House ads prominently tout NCSS events and membership, but that is to be expected.
Review: What really makes this site worthwhile to social studies teachers is that it provides two distinct types of content. Users get articles for direct use in the classroom, as well as updates on the preeminent social studies teachers’ group in the country.
SocialStudies.org also offers professional development articles and information on conferences and events where social studies teachers can collaborate and better their skills.
Bottom Line: Thankfully, you don’t have to be a member of the National Council for the Social Studies to find something useful on this site.
