Site Review: American Museum of Natural History

Site URL :Amnh.org

Content:  This site offers a little bit of literally everything the American Museum of Natural History has to offer. From virtual tours of the gem collection to interactive lessons on the dinosaur exhibits, Amnh.org has it all.

Design:  Simple rather than clean, the overall site design is easy enough to navigate. The main navigation bar is easy to follow, and a prominent scroller offers a sample of the newest and most timely features on the site.

There are great uses of images and video throughout the site, which help bring the museum experience home. Overall, the site is well designed, and unlike the typical museum experience, you won’t get lost very often.

Review: The one thing that Amnh.org does extremely well is provide content. Too many museum Web sites inundate the user with ads to “become a member” and “contribute to our cause.” Amnh.org does have links to these types of areas, but they are only obvious if you are inclined to use them. Instead, the focus is squarely on the wealth of knowledge the museum contains.

Bottom Line: This NYC landmark is a national treasure, and its Web site does a wonderful job of bringing it home to you.
