Technology and
Professional Development
Go Hand in Hand

Share

Technology usually comes with a sizable price tag, so when we purchase technology it must be tied to increased student achievement and individualized instruction. We no longer purchase technology or equipment without doing our research; offering professional development to show how its use can impact individual student learning; and having a plan for accountability in place to ensure that the equipment will be used. For example, when we considered purchasing digital cameras, each staff member who wanted one for use in their classroom signed a contract stating that they would

  • attend the in-service training for using the digital camera to individualize instruction,
  • provide evidence of the use of the digital camera in their yearly "professional growth plan," and
  • use the camera during one of their yearly observations.
In addition, we have offered professional development for the purchase of computers, Accelerated Math equipment, laser printers and ink cartridges, InFocus projectors, BlackBoard, web page development for classroom use, and more.
