EDTECH TIPS OF THE WEEK

Mac Facts

Read below to find a few hot tips for using Macs in the K-12 classroom.

40 Tips for Even the Expert Mac-ing Teacher!

Whether you think you know everything there is to know about your Mac's operating system or are totally new to Macs and eager to find out how these computers tic, you'll find what you're looking for in the MacWorld article Panther Secrets Declassified.

Protect!
Keep files secure with separate user accounts.

Panther (OS 10.3) makes it easy to keep separate files and settings for different users on a single computer. To create each account, simply click System Preferences>Accounts, click the plus sign, and add the information for that account.

Prevent!
Avoid spreading viruses with anti-virus software.

Even though Mac users are less vulnerable than PC users to being affected by e-mailed viruses, viruses can attach themselves to Mac users' e-mail and be sent to PC users. Be sure to run anti-virus software regularly, whichever platform you use.

Projects!
Take advantage of free and basic Mac software.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to create great classroom activities or projects. Programs that are part of Mac's OS X and can be easily used in K-12 classrooms include the calculator, stickies, iPhoto, and iMovie. Be creative!
