EDTECH TIPS OF THE WEEK

PC ABCs

Not every student (or teacher!) is anxious to learn about the parts of a computer. Still, some basic knowledge (such as knowing where the fan is on your computer so you won't block it and overheat your machine!) can be essential to a stress-free tech experience!

Seeing is Believing

Are your students still snoozing while you teach hardware basics? Check out Click 'N Learn's interactive, K-6 friendly site What's Inside a Computer?.

Play Around
Make learning a game.

Teach students to identify computer parts by playing computer Bingo. Hold up a picture of a computer component and have students mark the corresponding word on Bingo cards.

Break it Down
Display PC hardware on classroom walls.

Create a bulletin board using old computer parts. Write on index cards the name of each component and a sentence explaining its purpose.

Shut it Down
Turn students into software experts.

Demonstrate that pressing ALT and F4 at the same time will close 90 percent of all PC windows and programs.
