Tech in the Classroom:

AppCrayon

What is itAppCrayon, an app/device combination, is a tangible writing tool that works in conjunction with software to help younger students learn to write.

How does it work?  The AppCrayon App, using a system developed and approved by kindergarten teachers and pediatricians, helps students learn to write their letters. This is the perfect tool for kindergarten preparation and supplementation; users must write the letter correctly, or the arrow won’t move forward and the letter won’t be completed.

How hard is it to use? Three levels of difficulty allow the child to attain precision slowly and with a greater sense of accomplishment. Once users have completed all uppercase and lowercase letters, they’ll see a visual stamp of completion and hear a congratulatory message.

How well does it work? Quite well. The Crayon stylus is easy to hold, especially for smaller hands. The interface is very responsive, and its slight lag time is advantageous for reinforcing correct movements.

How do I use it in the classroom? Early-elementary teachers can use this tool as a supplement, or even a replacement, for traditional handwriting instruction.
