adobe presenter 9Tech in the Classroom: Adobe Presenter 9

What is itThis video creation tool combines screencasting with the recording capabilities of a traditional webcam. The software allows users to produce videos that incorporate both real-time desktop activity and synchronized video narration. Video lectures can be accessed by learners anytime, anywhere. Teachers also have the option of adding quizzes and tracking student performance by integrating with a Learning Management System (LMS).

adobe presenter 9How does it work?  Once users start recording their message, they encounter a series of buttons beneath the main viewing area. Clicking on the appropriate button will display only the presenter, only the desktop, or both the presenter and desktop—all in full-screen mode.

How hard is it to use? It’s relatively easy. There is a learning curve, but Adobe’s latest version of Presenter is very intuitive. The controls are designed and placed so that novices can get started in minutes. After a little practice, new users will be taking full advantage of the software’s features.

How well does it work? As well as advertised. Adobe has surpassed current screencast technology and added considerable value to recordings by enabling real-time video narrators. In addition, the seamless transition from desktop to presenter to combo screen keeps viewers engaged and avoids choppy animations that distract from the content.

How do I use it in the classroom? Presenter 9 seems perfect not only for bringing absent students up to speed on missed lessons, but also for preparing substitute teachers. The software could also work wonders in a “flipped” classroom.
