Content:  This is an eco-news outlet designed specifically for kids. As an earth-friendly, eco-conscious foundation, Earth Preservers offers young people real news they can understand.

DesignThe site is graphically dynamic. Every piece of content comes with a picture, lending itself to student engagement. The layout, with evenly placed headlines and story links, avoids clutter.

Earth Preservers does, however, lack a dedicated navigation. Users will only find this after arriving on a specific story page. There, a primary navigation bar runs down the right side of the screen and is very useful for jumping to different areas of the site.earth preservers

Review: Too often, news sites aimed at kids fall short of their goal because they “dumb down” the material too much. At Earth Preservers, this is not the case. Stories read in a straightforward manner and include the news essentials—who, what, when, where, why and how. The articles’ language is less sophisticated than that of the New York Times, but the content is no less important.

The site works for a number of academic disciplines such as science, English and current events. As the name suggests, however, this isn’t a general news site. All content reflects the goal of environmental protection.

Bottom Line:  In terms of news sites geared for kids, Earth Preservers, despite its limited topic coverage, is among the best.
