Content:  Characters Unite is the USA Network’s award-winning public service program, created to address the social injustices and cultural divides still prevalent in our society. This is the online home for the campaign, which supports activities and messaging that combat prejudice and intolerance while promoting understanding and acceptance.

characters UniteDesign: The site is quite elegant with minimalistic navigation and links. Each page contains a primary video player that offers clips about the campaign and ways to help.

The site has an open feel to it, which is bolstered by its layout. The site has only one purpose, and it fulfills that purpose without getting lost in a clutter of images, links and ads.

Review:  CharactersUnite can be a tremendous addition to nearly any classroom, as its theme of acceptance transcends grade levels. The videos featuring students’ stories of being ostracized or bullied drive the point home without browbeating or being overly sentimental. The use of several of the network’s signature stars adds a level of cool that students will like.

In addition to video content, the site offers several downloadable classroom materials designed to help students understand and ultimately embrace their differences. Both the activity guide and game cards are free to download.

Bottom Line:  CharactersUnite provides resources that can help prevent bullying and begin building a more positive classroom and school climate.
