App Name: Star Walk
Cost: $4.99
What does it promise? Star Walk enables users to point their iPad at the sky and identify the visible stars, constellations and satellites.
Does it deliver? It sure does. This app provides a lot of function for just $4.99. The Star Spotter is a particularly cool feature that uses real-time motion tracking to tell users what stars are above in the sky.
Star Walk is also loaded with the positions of celestial bodies. It knows where satellites are, so
users will never miss an ISS flying over their heads. The app also reveals the location of planets in relation to users’ position and guides to them via an interactive arrow.
History teachers can take advantage of the Time Machine feature that displays what the sky looked like at any time in the past, or will look like at any time in the future.
The app works well when paired to a secondary screen, which makes presenting it to a classroom so much easier.
Can I use it in my classroom? Star Walk provides terrific science-based content and easily can be adapted to fit a myriad of academic subjects.
All apps can be found in the iPad apps store under education.
