Students' in the United States should thank Horace Mann. Mann was the countries "father of public education. Born on May 4, 1796 he became secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education in 1837. Mann start the Common School Movement, what hoped to provide every child with an education payed for by local taxes Mann also saw the importance of teacher education, so he help crate the first teacher-training school.
