Rivers and Water Fascinating Facts Hunt

Subject: Language Arts, Technology
Grade: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12

Brief Description

Students use online or library sources to complete a work sheet about rivers and water fascinating facts.

Objectives

Students

  • define the term fascinating facts
  • use Internet or library sources to research information about rivers and water
  • use the information to correctly complete a fascinating facts work sheet about rivers and water.

Materials Needed

  • copies of the Education World work sheet Rivers and Water Fascinating Facts Hunt
  • printouts from Water Facts (Note: Print the pages for Water Facts. If you use the Internet Explorer browser, you can highlight and print the section.)
  • library sources about aviation history
  • pens or pencils
  • computers with Internet access (optional)

Lesson Plan

  • Discuss the meaning of the term fascinating facts. Tell students that they are going to search for fascinating facts about rivers and water.
  • Provide each student with a copy of the Education World work sheet Rivers and Water Fascinating Facts Hunt and copies of printouts from Water Facts. If Internet access is available to everyone, have students visit Water Facts online.

Variations:
For younger students: Work together as a class to complete the worksheet.
For older students:

  • Idea 1: Organize students into small groups. Tell students they must use print sources only, such as library books, magazines, or textbooks, to look for answers to the questions on the work sheet.
  • Idea 2: Give students a time limit to complete the work sheet.

Work Sheet Answer Key: 1. 2 quarts; 2. three-fourths or 3/4; 3. Nile River; 4. 8.34 pounds; 5. 3 hours; 6. 3,500,000; 7. Missouri River; 8. 120 gallons; 9. Mississippi River; 10. about 30,090 gallons.
